Value of Garlic (stinky but oh so good for you!).

Garlic has been valued throughout history for its medicinal properties. It is a remedy for virtually every illness. Herbal specialists have using garlic since 1500BC. People in China, Greece, Sumeria and Mesopotamia used garlic in their diet. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, recommended garlic for infectious diseases and for disorders like asthma and bronchial congestion. Garlic is good for heart, piles, gall-bladder related problems etc. Garlic is one of the most effective remedies for lowering blood pressure. It stimulates blood circulation and improves heart functioning.

For years French and Italians have been using Garlic in preparation of their food to give their cooking a distinctive flavor. It is also widely used in Indian, Chinese and Thai cooking.

Given below is a Bengali recipes with Garlic (Rashun in Bangali), which are easy to make, flavourful and tasty. Health benefits, as informed by Hippocrates, a nice side benefit!

Ingredients :-
6 Potatoes, cut into slices.
6 tsp Garlic paste.
2 tsp green chilly paste.
Pinch of Turmeric powder.
Salt to season

Preparation :- Marinate the sliced potatoes with Garlic and chilly paste adding a pinch of Turmeric powder. Keep for ½ hour (potatoes are likely to become reddish but don't worry). Drain any excess water and deep fry the potatoes till slightly brown. Drain on kitchen absorbing paper, sprinkle a little salt and serve. 

Goes well as snacks in a drinks party.
