Peas and Cheese Curry
Matar paneer is the widely known Indian vegetarian dish which is available at most Indian restaurants and most Indian events when people cannot think beyond paneer (milk caesin) for vegetarians. But YOU are different and like to think outside the box and treat vegetarians with as much respect as you treat the omnivores- sorry I mean non-vegetarians!
Here's a dish that uses actual processed cheese to serve up a vegetarian dish which would do you proud as a host in the eyes of your vegetarian friends.
Ingredients :-
400 gms fresh green peas
4 medium size potatoes, cut in to small cubes, fried lightly.
200 gms of processed cheese, grated.
2 dry chillies cut into small pieces.
2 onion, chopped.
2 tsp garlic paste, 1 tsp ginger paste.
1 cup of spring onion leaf, chopped.
1 tsp turmeric powder.
1 tsp cumin powder.
2 tsp Kashmiri Red chilly powder.
2 green cardamom, 2 sticks of cinnamon, 2 clove.
2 tbsp butter
50 gms of Raisins.
Salt to taste.
Preparation :- Heat the oil in a deep pan and stir-fry the dry chillies, cardamom, cinnamon and clove. Add chopped onion and fry till color turns golden brown. Add garlic and ginger paste and stir well. Add turmeric / cumin powder and salt to taste, stir. Add pre fried potato cubes and mix with the spices in the pan. Add the green peas, Kashmiri Red Chilly powder and spring onion leaf. Stir for 1 minute. Add raisins and grated cheese. Stir and add 1 ½ cup of warm water, cover and cook for 5 minutes.
Serve hot with Rice or Pilao.
